Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on December 17, 1936, Jorge Mario Bergoglio became Pope Francis on March 13, 2013.
Pope Francis is the first Jesuit Pope, the first from the Americas, the first from the Southern Hemisphere and the first non-European pope since the Syrian Gregory III in 741.
He chose Francis as his papal name in honor of Saint Francis of Assisi. To date, his tenure has been characterized by humility and outspoken support of the world’s poor and marginalized people. He has been involved actively in areas of political diplomacy, environmental advocacy and commitment to interfaith dialogue.
Our scheduled itineraries have been designed to incorporate visits to the Pope’s childhood home, the Basilicata where he was baptized, places where he studied and worked, the subway he used during many years… as well as his personal likings as soccer, tango, opera and “mate”

“Dialogue is born from an attitude of respect for the other person…”
From Cardinal Bergoglio and Rabbi Skorka’s book: On Heaven and Earth, 2007
Pope Francis attitude since his early beginning has been that of an interreligious opened dialogues. He had created a bridge of respect and dialogue with representatives of the different major religions.
