Program Description

This 3 Credit Course provides an introduction to the ecology and biodiversity of the Neotropics. Following a short on-campus introduction, the entire course is held on-site in the Brazilian Amazon. The course is primarily conducted on board an Amazon river boat, with canoe excursions into Várzea and Igapó forests (flooded forests) as well as travel by foot into terra firme (highland forest). Several of these excursions involve night time trips, and may include overnight stays in the forest. Small, isolated, caboclo (riverside) communities are also visited.
Program open to Non-Students and for Audit
This Summer trip will be the 18th offering of the course
